Michelle Silva Segura

My name is Michelle Silva Segura and I have been in the field of psychotherapy for over 20 years. I enjoy what I do and look forward to the work with clients. I believe that the client is the expert on their experience and on their understanding of their life. I try to bring my experience, knowledge, and understanding into the relationship so that the client and I can co-create an organic experience between us. In my opinion, exploration within the realms of curiosity is essential in forming an environment that is safe and non-judgmental.

My education consists of a M.A. in Psychology with an emphasis on Marriage and Family systems theory. I received my Masters from Universidad de las Americas, A.C. in Mexico City. My decision for studying in Mexico City is that it allowed me to live with family there and gain a better understanding of cultural norms. My professors were from all over the world which enabled me to build a strong understanding of how culture and systems come together. Not only do we have different cultures through ethnicity, but we have different cultures when blending with another person of a different family and family of origin. We have different cultures within generations, sexual orientation, communities, etc. Thus, there can be several different cultures within one organized unit. My belief is that if one can look with a lens of curiosity and learner, one can become more open to the gifts that we obtain as individuals.

My work experience is extensive and crosses borders. When in Mexico, I worked in several agencies providing services to children, adults, and families dealing with loss, trauma, and addiction. I am fluent in Spanish which has enabled me to work with individuals, families, and children who utilize Spanish as their first language. Upon returning to Texas, I worked in school communities, police departments, trauma centers, and finally, at the University of Texas-Austin. My training and experience allowed me to become familiar with not only the individual that may come to my office, but pay attention to the system surrounding that person whether it be their family of origin, their nuclear family, their partnership, and/or their work or school environment.

I have been working in the trauma field for much of my practice. This has allowed me the opportunity to learn techniques that involve listening to the body and its reactions to traumatic events. I believe in mindfulness and its benefits within psychotherapy. I have studied Thought Field therapy, REMAP, and Mindfulness theory. In 2016, I completed my certification to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. For more information on SE®, feel free to look on their website.

Creativity is essential to my work. I utilize play therapy techniques when working with children and have been known to use some play/art/ sand tray work with individual adults and families. I believe that we are never too old to play or to reach with that other side of our brain in the session. I don’t believe that therapy always has to be so serious and find that play and humor can help when appropriate.

On a personal note, I am a mother, a partner/wife, a sister, a daughter, a person…. who provides therapy and loves what I do. I look forward to meeting you if you feel I am the right choice for your healing journey.

I am originally from Houston, but have enjoyed living in Austin for the past 15 years. I am half Asian and half German; I enjoy working with people from various backgrounds. I received my Masters in Counseling Psychology in 1998 at the University of Denver.

I work with people across developmental stages with children, adolescents, and adults. With all of my clients, I work from a place of deep curiosity and compassion. I come from an attachment-based, strengths-focused mindset. This means I want to empower my clients through discussion of relationships and positive personality traits. More than anything, I believe that therapy brings clarity of mind and spirit.

I have also worked extensively with children and families who have recently experienced trauma and are living in shelters in the United States.

Angeline Miller

Therapist, LPC Associate

You are more than the things that happened to you in the past or the ways that you acted when you were hurting. You are a multi-faceted, unique, resilient, and capable person. You belong and you matter. I believe this is true of each and every person, even though many of us haven’t had experiences that affirm these truths. And so we go on living outside of who we really are—feeling disconnected and alone, fragmented and confused, anxious and depressed, and the list goes on and on.

I know this, because I’ve been there. And in the depths of a difficult time, I was met with the compassionate and steady support of my therapist who never once looked away from my pain. In doing so, she empowered me to process painful elements of my life and reconnect with my strength and creativity. This experience changed the trajectory of my personal and professional path and led me to leave my tech job and pursue a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am currently an LPC-A working under the supervision of Michelle Silva Segura, LPC-S.

My work as a therapist centers on creating a space where my clients can bring their whole selves into the room—their mind, body, and soul. I see my role as one of witness, collaborator, cheerleader, and listener. I have a profound respect for the resiliency of the human spirit, and trust your inner wisdom and strength to guide our work.

I offer psychotherapy services for individual adults from all backgrounds, identities, and bodies. I identify as mixed race (Filipina and white American) and feel passionate about and have training in working with clients who want to explore and integrate their complex identities in regard to race, culture, and spirituality. Ultimately, I feel excited to work with anyone who wants to deepen in their connection to their true self, others, and the world around them.

My approach is integrative in nature, and informed by a few core theories, including: relational psychodynamic, attachment, interpersonal neurobiology, somatic (body-based), and experiential theories. My training in DEEP (Dynamic Enriched Experiential Psychotherapy), which is based on AEDP, helps me integrate these modalities in a skilled, authentic, and attuned way.

I am a learner at heart and always have a stack of books, queue full of podcasts, and list of trainings and workshops to attend. This is because I love what I do! And because I will never ask you to work harder than I am.

If any of this resonates with you, I invite you to reach out for a free 20-minute phone consultation to help us both get to know each other a bit more and explore the possibility of working together.

Therapist, LMFT Associate

Trina Bolfing

I’m Trina, and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFT Associate) and Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC Associate). I work with individuals, couples, families, and co-parents. My clients come to me with concerns about their relationships and family, trauma history, life transitions, issues related to marginalized identity, general identity development, managing their emotions, and other struggles that are weighing on them.

You matter. Your story matters. I’d love to hear it. And I’d love to support you while you learn to recognize and use your voice in way that helps you craft the story you truly want for yourself.I use a trauma-informed, feminist, systemic, and postmodern lens to understand my clients’ stories. Those terms may mean lots of different things to different people. For me it means past struggle, systems of oppression, culture, and family/community powerfully impact identity. And the manner in which we share our own story is incredibly meaningful.

Have you been feeling overwhelmed and steamrolled by your own emotions? Does something painful from your past feel like it’s always creeping around every corner? Is there something missing in your relationships that keeps you from connecting the way you want? Does it feel like other people’s needs end up more important than yours? None of these struggles have to stay that way. Change is possible. A more satisfying story is possible.

Whatever you're going through, you don't have to go through it alone. Let's dig up some hope and a new way forward. Let's work together to boost your confidence to face hard things, increase your awareness of your strengths, improve your connection with others, and clarify who you are and who you want to be. I will be your trusted sidekick as you wade into the depths. I'll believe in you when you're having trouble believing in yourself.

Finding a therapist can be a big task and taking the first step in reaching out is so brave. If you think we might be a good fit, let’s talk. It’s free to chat on the phone and get to know each other before committing to working together. I’d love to hear from you.
